Seriously if you’re in a college sociology class and you’ve never heard of Sigmund Freud before you should probably leave.

nhaler asked: Well, you *know* what Freud would have said about somebody who reads a blog they hate.
Well, there could be several “Freudian” responses. I’d probably discuss projection for example but I’m interested in what you were thinking of.
Anonymous asked: Passions of yours! You're the first example of passionate bitterness towards your own passion, all you do is to denigrate a person who is dead, therefore unable to defend himself. Not that he would ever want to discuss your opinions. Not that level. Feel bad for yourself you sad lowly creature. Pitiful excuse for human being. Plus idiot.
Defend himself from what? Humor is far less harmful than misappropriation and willful distortion of his work. If you don’t like my blog you don’t have to read it. If you are so smart find something better to do than anonymously harass others and reading blogs you hate.
abadjoke-deactivated20130321 asked: Yeah, there's really a lot of hatred/criticism, as you said. It's actually funny because people put a lot of effort releasing books that "will prove that Freud was a fraud and all his works are bullshit".
that is quite true. people do that for a couple of other thinkers, but Freud receives more than his fair share. that being said I enjoy so many Freudian authors such as Firestone that I can block out the hate.
abadjoke-deactivated20130321 asked: And maybe, psychoanalisys is still to different from how most scientists view and research the human being. I hope that made sense, my english is very limited.
if english is not your primary language I am very impressed by the asks so far. easily comprehensible and insightful! thank you for the interaction, sometimes followers forget that this blog is run by an actual person.
abadjoke-deactivated20130321 asked: Yeah, I agree. Even though there are some "unfortunate" things that Freud said ( even though he never really stated something like and absolute truth, from what I've read of his works, for the most part he says it "problably is") there are many things that we can enjoy from his vast bibliography, not even mentioning that he was the one who opened a whole new way of understanding the human being, in a way that was so different from what was predominant on his time.
and he attempted to delve beyond empirically verifiable, surface level analysis of human sexuality, which to me is his biggest accomplishment. while much of his thought should rightfully be challenged and discussed, the level of hatred/criticism of Freud is quite unbelievable.
abadjoke-deactivated20130321 asked: It's interesting to actually find someone who likes Freud and psychoanalisys. From what I've seen on this website, many people dislike Freud because some of missinterpreted quotations and stuff alike.
It is most likely based upon misinterpreted quotes and misunderstandings of his work. Concepts such as the oedipus complex, and the way in which homosexuality develops are problematic but his explanations are not supposed to be categorical accounts of the genesis of the phenomena. However, other aspects of his thoughts such as homosexuality (as inversion theory), fetishism (displacement of desire), as well as sadism and masochism are quite problematic. There are many legitimate criticisms of Freud but he is an important thinker with quite a few valid claims to make.
And many problems with psychoanalysis stem from its history of misogyny but feminist psychoanalysts have worked to find their place in the field to a large amount of success. Firestone is fantastic, my favorite work being a section entitled “Feminist Critique of Love”.
Anonymous asked: hah, i doubt you could 'traverse [THAT] fantasy'
Lacan’s traversing the fantôme, now prominently known as traversing the fantasy, is quite a “pop” psychoanalytic/philosophical term. Even as someone who primarily focuses in post-structuralist philosophy, “traversing the fantasy” is quite peculiar.
nhaler asked: Nobody needs passive-aggressive "i feel bad for you" retorts; just tell them to fuck off.
fair enough. I appreciate the advice. anon haters can (not so) kindly fuck off.
Anonymous asked: did anybody tell you, you're an idiot? done.
Did anybody tell you that I give zero fucks about what some anonymous tool thinks of my side blog that I run for fun? If you think you can judge me by posts made here I feel bad for you.
And not that I have to justify myself to you, but psychoanalysis and specifically Freud, Kristeva, and Firestone are passions of mine. If you wish to get to know me and make informed opinions about my intellect you can come off anon and send me another ask. I’d be more than happy to have in depth discussions, which usually precludes anonymous name-calling.
